Lapwing

Lapwings have returned to my patch at long last. There were a good 30+ birds displaying over the fields where they usually nest. They make quite a racket, but for me its a great sound. I've spent many hours watching them perform and subsequently nest and bring up their young in these fields. I'm hoping that this year is no different to those gone before. I'd like to get some more pictures like these.

  9. Lapwings provide such a great sights and sounds when they are displaying. I really hope you have some breeding pairs near you this year Adam. I have watched them decline to such an extent in this area that i now struggle to find more than a handful of nests.

  26. Great photos Adam! I love the fact that you managed to capture the light in the lapwings eye and the timing was perfect to get a shot of him with his beak open and tongue visible. (my favourite photo)

  27. Wow - your photos never cease to amaze me. We have overwintering lapwings in the fields around here and love to see them rise in flight, all together. Their eerie call is a sure sign that winter is with us ... and now they have gone!

Many thanks for adding your fabulous photos to #AnimalTales
